A KLS sandtrap is constructed of 6061 marine grade aluminum with an acrylic sight window. A KLS sandtrap can be used in gas and diesel applications.

The sandtrap can be easily mounted in the engine compartment. The standard height of the sand trap is 12” and requires minimal room for mounting. A larger version is available for commercial, diesel application.

A sandtrap is an essential part of the cooling system. It keeps sand and sediment out of the entire cooling system, the heat exchanger and the exhaust manifolds by using a centrifugal vortex to separate the sand form the water. This allows the sand to settle in the bottom of the trap where it can be easily seen and moved with the turn of a valve. Removal of and cleaning of the heat exchanger and cooling system can be expensive compared to the cost of and installation of a sandtrap.

The KLS Extreme is a combination sandtrap/sea strainer. Its vortex action removes sand and heavy objects just like the conventional KLS sandtrap. The KLS Extreme’s internal screen prevents any floating matter, such as seaweed, algae, or grasses from entering the cooling system.

The KLS Extreme can be easily cleaned, without the removal of any internal components by opening a drain valve. The drain valve can be plumbed through the transom with a through-hull fitting.

All dimensions of the KLS Extreme are the same as the KLS sandtrap, except for the height, which is 18” including the fitting.

The KSL Extreme performs exceptionally well in muddy and swampy areas full of seaweed and grasses, and in silk-laden and sandy waters.

The KLS XP Extreme is designed for diesel applications. With the use of a sea pump, this sandtrap/sea strainer can be plumbed to be continuously self-cleaning. These units are built to order depending on fitting size and available space for mounting.
